Yaskawa Robot Reducer Classification

Yaskawa Robot Reducer Classification

1. Classified by payload level:

Yaskawa offers a wide range of robot models, with payloads ranging from a few kilograms to over a thousand kilograms. Robots with different payloads will use reducers of varying sizes and series.

1.1 Small/desktop robots (such as MH series, low-payload models of GP series):

  • The arm may use a small RV reducer or even a precision planetary gear.
  • Harmonic drive reducers are widely used in the wrist.

1.2 Medium-sized robots (the most mainstream, such as the MP/MX series, HP series, AR series):

  • Arm (J1, J2, J3): Standard RV reducer (such as Teijin/Nabtesco's RV-E, RV-C series, or equivalent products).
  • Wrist (J4, J5, J6): Harmonic drive reducers (such as Harmonic Drive's CSF/CSG series or equivalent products).

1.3 Large/Heavy Robots (such as MP/MX series high-payload models, large welding and handling robots):

  • Arm: Large-size RV reducer (such as Teijin/Nabtesco's RV-N series or equivalent products).
  • Wrist: A large harmonic drive reducer or a small RV reducer may be used to ensure rigidity.

2. Supplier Brand:

Yaskawa robots mainly use Japanese brand reducers, but there is also a trend toward supply chain diversification.

2.1 Main suppliers of RV reducers:

  • Nabtesco: A global absolute leader, its RV series sets the industry standard. Yaskawa is one of its largest clients.
  • Sumitomo: Also an important supplier, providing similar products.
  • Chinese brands: Chinese brands such as Qinchuan Machine Tool, Nantong Zhenkang, and Shuanghuan Transmission are also actively developing and providing alternative solutions in certain sectors or maintenance markets.

2.2 Main suppliers of harmonic drive reducers:

  • Harmonic Drive: The leading global brand of harmonic reducers.
  • Nidec Shimpo: It is also an important supplier.
  • Chinese brand: Leaderdrive has become a significant global player, and other domestic brands are also developing rapidly.

3. For Example:

3.1 For 50kg payload and below: Axles 1-4 use RV reducers (Teijin-Nabtesco), while axles 5-6 use harmonic reducers (Harmonic Drive).

For example: HP20D U-axis reducer HW9280880-G

        HP20D B-axis reducer HW9381633-A

3.2 For 50kg payload and over: Axles 1-6 use RV reducers

For example: MS165 L-axis reducer HW1382455-C

        MS165 B-axis reducer HW9380961-G

3.3 Other individual models such as:

MH50/MH80/MS165/MS210/GP180 and other T-axis models use Sumitomo RV reducers.

For example: MH50 T-axis reducer HW0389043-A

If you need to know the specific gearbox model used for each axis of a particular Yaskawa robot model (such as MA2010, AR1440, etc.), you usually need to consult the mechanical maintenance manual for that model or contact our technical support.
